FROG GIGGING!

Yes, this is the thing that I am the most excited about. A few years back we went up to Kansas for the 4th and Rob's country-farming family took us frog giggin' and it was one of the funnest things I've done in my life! You get a really long stick with a small pitch fork at the end, wade in slimy ponds with mud up to your knees (it's not for the faint-hearted) and look for little shiny eyes with your flash light. Then with all the stealth you can muster you inch forward and with one swift movement you stab the poor thing as hard and as fast as you can. It's a rush, I tell ya! And then the uncles and cousins skin 'em and chop 'em and the aunts fry them up for the 4th of July picnic the next day. How fun is that for a 4th of July memory? I love this country!

I faked illness in high school on the frog dissection day, so I can safely say that this is not the pastime for me! But I have seen that little twinkle in your eye when you talk about it, so go gig your heart out (or the frog's for that matter)!

Hmmmm...Whatever works, although i think I'd send my boys, while I stayed home watching a chick flick eating some popcorn, maybe I am a bit faint hearted!!!

You are such a country girl. We don't do that in our neck of the woods. That's why I love you so much! Fried okra anyone?

Walking around in muddy farm ponds? No bid deal! (Even if it sucks your shoe off in 3 feet of silt :) harpoonin' a wheezing bullfrog? Eh, no prob. Pealing him out of his skin? Easier than a catfish. Cleaner too! No guts. Clean white leg meat. Like chicken.

Not until day 2 when they are laid all pretty on the plate in the refridge. Chilled, ready to be cooked ~ ...when someone finally adds the pinch of salt for flavor 😊 & the salt hits those exposed nerves. Hehe. then those disembodied frogs legs start hopping around the plate all by themselves! (the trained "nerves of steal" country cook will grab them up from the counter-top and drop them in the Fry Daddy without missing a beat. Whatever you do, don't miss the chance to have your cell phone ready to catch the Newby while he/she hollars, and sqeals trying to catch the slippery legs! Personally, i love the flavor! And i think a good 4th of July Bullfrog Hunt is worth the effort just for that. :)
